Smell plays important role in every life. We as humans have amazing sense towards smell and we choose a lot based on smell; what we should eat, what we should drink even whom to kiss. If it comes to the house where we live, if it smells fresh it feels amazing . Lets us know the secrets on making our house smell amazing.
Now Lets Tackle the Bad
Lets deal with moisture
If our house have unpleasant odour it is just because of moisture. By testing the humidity level in each room and it exceeds 60 percent, we need to use a dehumidifier. If you live in humid climate, its better to avoid wall to wall carpeting or rugs where moisture gets trapped. Keep moisture absorbing crystals in areas like kitchen and bathroom.. Always keep an eye on sponges and towels and keep them dry.
Open the fridge.
Fridge is another source of odour. You keep tossing the things in to it and things that get pushed back are always forgotten, which gets rotten and emits bad odour. Do an inventory of your fridge every month and ensure the contents are fresh. Give a thorough scrubbing of the interior of your fridge by removing all the shelves and drawers. Wipe down the inside of the structure with a 1 – 1 mixture of hot water and white vinegar with a drop of dish washing soap. Use a damp cloth to rinse. Remember to stay away from bleach.
Clean soft surfaces.
Carpets, pillows, upholstery, bed linens are magnets for smells. A spill on these will become breeding ground for odour causing bacteria. It is recommended to have a professional steam-clean for your upholstery and carpets once a year.
Easy way to avoid smells on carpet is to attack the spill as quickly as possible. Try sprinkling of baking powder, make it sit for few hours on the spill and vacuum.
Bring in the good.
Open the window. Natural sunlight plays major role in killing the odour causing bacteria. Natural light makes the living space cleaner and help lift the mood in your home.
Find subtle ways to scent.
Use diffusers with essential oils, they smell great and elevate the mood. Do your own fabric refresher spray. Mix half a cup of white vinegar, half a cup of rubbing alcohol, 1 teaspoon of cornstarch, and 20 drops of your favourite oil in a small spray bottle. Shake well before each use, and mist it over clothing or upholstery, ensuring that clothes dry completely before you fold them.
